Fashion or comfort?

I work in an office that is comprised mostly of women. As one might imagine, that means a lot of conversations on beauty related products, fashion, and relationships. Today’s hot topic of conversation - flipflops.

Apparently there was a news story on the radio this morning during the morning commute where this fashion bulletin was issued:

FLIPFLOPS ARE NOT IN THIS SEASON.

Go ahead, gasp in horror. The conversation around me saw my coworkers all aflutter wondering ‘What am I going to wear then?’ and another added “But I live in flip flops in the summer.’

The answer seems simple to me. Wear the damn flipflops if you are comfy in them. But most people don’t do that. They would rather be fashionable and uncomfortable as opposed to comfortable and maybe not so fashionable.

When I was younger, my motto was ‘fashion before comfort,’ and now that I am close enough to 30 to say that I am close to 30, I think ‘boy, what an idiot I was.’ So sure, I’ll be wearing flip flops this summer. But then again, I regularly wear clothes that do not match just because I want to be comfy at work.
