Am I a sucker?

Each Monday deals with misc. general issues

Two weeks ago, a co-worker realized before lunch that she had left her wallet and her lunch bag at home, which is 45 miles way and we only get 30 minutes. She didn’t have any money in her car or any food at her desk. I heard her going around telling people of her dilemma and asking if anyone had any money so that she could run to McDonalds next door and get something off the dollar menu. One by one I heard people telling her no. She got to me. I don’t usually carry cash, but I told her that I might have some change. She said anything would be something. I looked and I just so happened to have a dollar in change. She thanked me and said she’d get it back to me.

It felt good knowing that I’d helped her get something to eat. But I’m having a money crunch and she still hasn’t given me back that dollar. I have a hard time believing that she has forgotten that she owes it to me, especially considering the circumstances. I could use that dollar, but wonder if it is out of line to specifically ask for it back. I keep hoping that she will “remember” and offer it back to me on my own. Some people might say to me, ‘oh it’s just a dollar, forget it.’ But I’m having some unexpected expenses all of a sudden and that dollar would buy a head of lettuce for me.

I think I’m going to have to ask for it back. I have no choice. I hate feeling bad about asking for something that is mine though.

Don’t feel bad, just ask her for the money back, as you need it for lunch?
