Rewards and bribery for all!
I don’t know how things were in your house when you were growing up, but in my house there was a lot of child bribery in the form of rewards taking place. You know what I’m talking about. You go to the doctor without causing a fuss and you get a new toy. Sit quietly at the salon while mom gets her hair done, you get ice cream afterwards. I didn’t like brushing my teeth when I was little and got a dime every time I brushed them…until I started brushing them a zillion times a day.I want to know why as an adult that has to stop?
Why can’t it be like this - you spend 45 minutes on the phone with an irate customer at work, when you get off the phone your boss brings you a cookie. You just made a bunch of copies for a co-worker, when you get done he/she gives you a fancy-pants new pen. (for me this would be sweet, I love getting new pens and pencils) You spend an hour in rush hour traffic, get home and your honey has a card for you that they made, with crayons and construction paper. I’m talking about prizes here people.
Where is this coming from you may wonder. I just got handed a most unpleasant and tedious task at work. It would sure be nice if there was ice cream at the end of tunnel for this.
