My top 5 worst jobs of all time
Posted by chica with issues under job, career, school related issues
There is a lot of talk concerning find your dream job. In fact there are scores of books on the subject. There is nothing worse than seeing these books when you are working a job that you abhor but you have to keep to pay the billls until you can find something better.
I’ve had a few financially rough periods in my life that resulted in me having to take some jobs that were beyond horrible - at least to me. Who knows they might have been someone else’s dream job!
Here are my top 5 worst jobs of all time, in no particular order:
- Where? Boston Market. What? Pulling apart hot chickens. I kid you not. Pay? Minimum wage. When? about 10 years ago
- Where? Some builder/construction company. What? Technically the title was ‘office manager’ but the ‘office’ was a construction trailer with no bathroom - just porta potties. One porta potty and I was the lone chica. And did I mention the ants? Ants everywhere in the ‘office’ Pay? $13 per hour, which was nice pay at the time, but not worth all of the environmental issues. When? about 5 years ago.
- Where? grocery store in the shady part of town. What? cashier. in the shady part of town. my first day people were carjacked. My first day was my last day. Pay? Minimum wage When? over 10 years ago.
- Where? Hospital ER. What? don’t remember the job title but I took down patient’s info into a laptop. It was horrible because on my first day I saw 8 people die. That’s traumatic for a 19 yr old. Pay? around $13 per hour. it was great pay and great benefits. When? almost 10 yrs ago
- Where? family owned business where I was the only non-family member. What? technically I was an office manager. the boss has serious mental problems and would randomly scream weird things. the first time it happened I looked around the office bewildered but no one else even flinched. Guess they were used to it happening at home. Pay? $15 per hour. Nice. When? 3 years ago.
And an honorable mention goes to my first job at a bakery where I showed up to work one day and the manager/owner had taken off in the middle of the night. With my pay.
