Use essential oils to enhance your health and well-being
No doubt you’ve heard of the benefits of essential oils, but did you know that they have been used for centuries to better one’s health and well-being? In fact, you can trace the use of essential oils back to ancient Egypt. Historically they have been used for both perfume and healing purposes. With that in mind, you may want to purchase some essential oils to enhance your health and well-being.
Essential oils are liquid oils which are extracted using ancient techniques from various plants, bushes, shrubs, flowers, roots and sometimes seeds found around the world. These substances occur naturally and protect plants from diseases and other environmental dangers.
Wintergreen oil, when applied directly onto the skin under the nose, will keep your sinuses clear and will get rid of any harmful bacteria lurking in your nose. As soon as the effect or the aroma seems to disappear you can apply a few drops again. Putting wintergreen directly onto your chest will help with coughing and congestion, especially at night. To be able to function in the morning, put a few drops under your nose.
Lavender oil has a calming and soothing effect, which makes it great for stress. It can also be used on skin conditions, such as dry skin. Lavender oil has also been used to minimize scarring.
Lavender oil, along with lemon and orange oil, is also known for having anti-depressant properties.
Australian tea tree oil, or melaleuca, can act as a general antiseptic for minor cuts and bruises. It can be effectively applied using a small cotton ball or makeup sponge to apply a few drops to the affected area or areas.
Cinnamon, clove, geranium, lemon, lime, orange and rosemary oils have been proven to have antibacterial properties, with cinnamon being the most effective even in a small amount.
Rosemary is considered an activating oil, which means it promotes alertness. It is also one of the best essential oils for hair, specifically thinning hair as it strengthens the hair and helps it grow in thicker. For best results, it should be applied directly on the scalp to moisturize the roots of the hair.
If you have never used therapeutic oils then you should be aware that they are very concentrated, which means the effects and smells are powerful if you apply too much. Usually no more than a couple of drops are needed. If using rosemary oil in your hair, then increase the amount to four to five drops. As with any new substance you are putting on your skin, there could be allergic reactions depending on the individual. It is recommended that you test these oils with one drop on a small area of skin first. A few drops of vegetable oil on the same area can be used if the skin gets red and irritated or burns. The vegetable oil will dilute the therapeutic oil and reduce the redness and pain quickly.
Remember to purchase the therapeutic high-concentrated grade of essential oils, as opposed to a diluted version of the oil. While the diluted versions will still have the same healing properties, the effectiveness will be on a smaller scale due to the dilution.
