Overmanage your employees and you’ll likely be looking for new ones
I’m not a boss and I never have been. That means I have a lot of experience in good managers versus bad managers. Unfortunately I seem to have had more than my share of managers. Most of the bad ones suffer from the same thing.
A power trip, which leads to overmanaging.
Let me explain what I mean…
The company has a flex-time policy but the manager demands you give him/her a set start time for your shift.
The company is seriously behind in some key areas and you are told there is unlimited overtime. Your boss says no overtime unless it is approved by him/her 24 hours in advance.
The company says you can be on the internet on your breaks but the boss says he/she doesn’t know when your breaks are so don’t get on the internet at all.
The company says have your choice for how long of a lunch you take. The boss says to take a half hour only and take the same amount of time each day, no matter what.
These 4 examples are my current boss. I’ve encountered them before, usually in call centers, but this is in an office.
There are 3 people, including me, in my department. We are all looking for new jobs with a quickness.
