Feng Shui: crap or craptastic?
I’m fairly certain that most people have heard of Feng Shui. But what do we really know about it? Is it just a fad for rich people or does it really work it’s mojo for you?
If you are not familiar with Feng Shui, it is an ancient Chinese idea that where and how you place and arrange furniture and your living/working space has a direct correlation on your ability to achieve harmony and success. Supposedly, if Feng Shui is utilized properly it can have a positive effect on your personal relationships, wealth, health and well-being and success.
With Feng Shui it is all about the ‘chi’ baby. What is chi you ask? It is supposed to be a flow of energy. I’m picturing Dawn from Buffy the Vampire Slayer - key, chi…they’re both blobs of energy!
Yin and yang and the i ching are also important parts of Feng Shui.
At first glance, Feng Shui seems kinda complicated but that does not mean that there isn’t a virtual cornucopia of so-called experts that can set you up with all that is right in terms of Feng Shui for a fee.
Broken down, the basic idea of Feng Shui seems to be that you have chi flowing all around you constantly and as long as it can flow freely then you will reap much success and happiness in all areas of life. But when that chi gets blocked, so do your successes and happiness. Feng Shui is supposed to intruct you on how to make sure that your chi is not blocked.
Guess what does a lot of chi blocking? Clutter! Both literally and figuratively. Got emotional baggage, a.k.a. issues? That’s clutter. Got stacks of newspapers and old pizza boxes in your apartment? That’s clutter.
It seems that implementing Feng Shui in your life is a sort of cleansing for the soul and for the environment.
Does it work? I can’t say for sure. I live in an apartment so it’s kinda hard to make sure I don’t have any walls facing this or that and so on. For example, see today’s Feng Shui Tip of the Day from World of Feng Shui:
“ Make sure that your stove or cooker is not in the Northwest of the kitchen, as this represents “fire at heaven’s gate”, which is very inauspicious. ”
I do know that Donald Trump practices it. That doesn’t really impress me, but maybe it does you? And he’s sorta filthy rich, so maybe it does work.
I do know that simplifying or cleansing by getting rid of clutter is never a bad thing. For 20 Ways to Simply Your Life check out my old post. Looking for some Feng Shui info? Try some of these links (I am not affiliated with any of these sites):
