Getting unemployment benefits takes a heck of a lot longer than you might think.
My last day of paid employment was August 16. Today I was finally given a benefit determination and the payments were supposedly sent to my checking account. That is a really long time. For most Americans that type of wait could be catastrophic.
And after making me wait that long the results are kind of pathetic. After having to wait a week with no payment (why do they do that?!?) my weekly payment amount is about 55% of what my weekly take home pay was. I knew it was supposed to be around 60%, but wow that is, well, not a lot. And I opted to pay taxes on it later as opposed to now - so it would really be even less than what it is.
Of course, I am thankful that the payment has finally appeared - well, it’s not in my checking account yet but should be on its way.
Hopefully I will find myself getting a full paycheck sooner rather than later. I have the place that I interviewed at last week that has not made a decision yet. And I got a call this morning about a place that wants to interview me.
