ING lowers rates and the government has reached it’s limit

On the heels of the Fed lowering interest rates it appears that ING has followed suit.

According to Online Savings Blog,  the ING savings account, as well as checking and business savings accounts are all sporting lower interest rates that are effective as of today.

The ING Direct online savings account has gone from 4.5% to 4.3%. The ING Electric Orange checking account has seen the following changes:

  • $0-$49,999.99 earns a 3.50% APY –> previously this was 3.00%
  • $50,000.00-$99,999.99 earns a 4.90% APY  –> previously this was 5.05%
  • $100,000.00 or more earns a 5.00% APY –> previously this was 5.30%

And the business savings account dropped from 5.00% to 4.75%.

For me, I am most upset about the ING Direct savings account. The electric orange change is actually in my favor as you will notice that the rate went up for accounts under $50,000.  And I do not have a lot of cash so I won’t be seeing anything over $50,000 in my account, so it all works out pretty good for me.

I wonder if the other big presence online savings account like Emigrant Direct will also be dropping their rates?

Other interesting financial news on Yahoo today says that Congress is going to be asked to lift the government’s debt limit.  See, even the United States government has money issues. They should really read my posts on Wednesdays. :)

Apparently the US government’s credit limit only goes to just under $9 trillion. Bah, pocket change. If that limit doesn’t get raised by October 1st then the government will not have enough money to keep operating or to pay its bills. I know what that is like and it bites.

Now whenever I have gotten to a point where I was not going to be able to pay my bills I would look around to see where I could trim the fat, so to speak. Seems to me like the good old US government could benefit from a little fat trimming.

And really now, what have they spent all of this money on? Has it all been on this pointless war? I certainly hope not.  What is going on in Washington, DC? Seriously.
