Get your free $10 from OboPay before the fee goes up!
Just last week I signed up every cell phone that we have for an OboPay account. Okay, so it was only two cell phones, but still.
Why did I do this?
Easy. Each new person gets $10 free just for sending money with them as a new account holder. AND you get $5 for each referral. So, I signed up then I referred my girlfriend. We each sent each other some cash. We each made $10 and I made an additional $5 for the referral. In total, we made $25. Not too bad for a few days of clicking links and waiting for accounts to be verified.
The catch?
There is a fee to add money to the account from a credit card. There is a $0.10 fee to send money to someone. And they send a text message to your cell phone for every freaking thing that they do. So, all in all, I didn’t really make a full $25, but it was at least $20. See, I don’t have a text messaging plan. Otherwise it would have been more money that I made.

If you’re going to do it though, you should do it before November 27, as the credit card deposit fee is going up then. Check out this email that I just got from them:
To maintain Obopay’s commitment to enhancing and improving our service, the following change to Obopay Fees will be in effect on November 27, 2007, for all Obopay users; add money from your credit or debit card fee will increase from 1.5% to: 2.5% of the total transaction amount.
Glad I did it before the fee increase. This isn’t a paid review or anything. Just a shameless attempt at making an extra five bucks. And I thought that someone should warn peeps about all the text messages that Obopay sends when you are sending or getting money through them.
