Win a book and possibly become a millionaire by 30

Posted by chica with issues under money issues

If you recall, there was a nifty little contest over at QueerCents not too long ago where I won a book. The book in question is A Million Bucks by 30 by Alan Corey.

I have seen several personal finance blogs writing about the book. Not all of the reviews have been entirely glowing.

Personally I enjoyed the book. It’s not very often that you can find a funny and informative personal finance book. And that is just what this one is. Sure, some of his methods are a bit unorthodox but I say kudos to him. You may not want to ask for the lost and found to get a free umbrella, but I sure wish I had thought of that back when I was living in NYC!

There are not any new revolutionary tips in the book on how to reach a million by 30. There is also not a “get rich quick” scheme in the book. What you will find is a little inspiration though.

If you’d like to win this copy of A Million Bucks by 30 by Alan Corey then just leave me a comment with your best money tip. It can be about saving, investing or whatever. Contest runs from today until Friday, February 8,2008. Then I will pick a winner and gift you with this good read.

I hate to always say it and sound cliche, but ..

KEEP TRACK OF ALL OF YOUR EXPENSES :)

It’s the best way to get a cold hard dose of reality about what you’re REALLY spending versus what you THINK you’re spending… Plus, you can build a realistic budget from that. :)

buy only what u absolutely NEED. what u need and what u want may be two different things.

Always check the websites of your favorite restaurants and stores for coupons. You’d be suprised about how much you can save with almost no effort. Also if you take prescription medication, check for coupons that can be used with new or transfered prescritiptions…CVS offers up to $25 per new / transfered prescriptions throughout the year.

Whenever I read or hear about an interesting book, I try to get it from my college library. If (usually “when”) they don’t have it, I order it through an inter-college library loan system. Basically, I get the same book for the same amount of time (3-6 weeks) for free, and all I have to do is wait a couple of days for it to arrive. :) I’m sure one of your local colleges has a similar program. The only catch is that you have to be a college student to get books from their library, but you can sidestep that requirement by taking a 1-credit class, like pottery or yoga sometime in the evening or on weekends. It might sound like a lot of work, but in the end, you’ll save a lot of money on your books. :D

It’s been said before but: Pay yourself first. I have a set amount Payroll Deducted to a savings account that I don’t touch. When I get a raise I add that amount to the deduction.

Also no ATM cards or debit cards.
