Super Tuesday thoughts
I am a big follower of politics and am a bit bummed that I am not in a state that gets to have a primary tomorrow. However, my parents are in a Super Tuesday state, which is exciting by extension. Sadly they do not share my love of politics though.
My parents are not registered with any particular party. Like a majority of people, they do not really watch any of the debates or anything and instead rely on news highlights. And sadly, they rarely even vote. Growing up I only remember them voting in one presidential election and that was for Ross Perot, which makes me wonder how they gave birth to me.
But anyways, I have seen almost all of the debates for both parties so I try to call them up and give them the highlights. I think all voters should be informed and since they are in a Super Tuesday state I think they really should be informed since it’s such an important primary day.
After this last series of debates I called up my dad to tell him the highlights of the healthcare plans that were mentioned during the democratic debate. You see, my dad is diabetic and self-employed. His health insurance dropped his coverage long ago which resulted in my mom having to get a low-wage job just to get some health insurance. (As a stay-at-home mom she didn’t have a lot of skills that would be attractive to employers.)
When I heard Hillary Clinton’s health care plan on how everyone would get affordable health insurance and that it would cover pre-existing conditions like diabetes I got pretty excited. I do not know all of the specifics of her plan but she did say that she wanted to end the practice of insurance companies ‘cherry-picking” people to insure.
So, I called my dad to share this info. We’re going to watch the “Town Hall” thing that Hillary is doing tonight on the Hallmark channel and online to see what else we can learn about her healthcare plan. If healthcare is an important issue to you, then you might want to check it out too. Of course, it might not even get mentioned, so we’ll see.
If another candidate offers something similar, please feel free to let me know!
