Keep car repair prices low by not putting things off
I spent most of the morning at a car repair shop. My car needed some work on the brakes as well as an oil change. I was supposed to get the oil changed 8,000 miles ago. And my brakes have been making that horrible metal against metal sound since sometime in December.
I know, I need scolded. The worst thing is that about 5 years ago I let my brakes get really bad and as a result it was really expensive.
I expected today’s services to be over $250. But I was going to be really excited if they were under $250, which I doubted. I also had a coupon for $15 off $200 of brake service.
Imagine my surprise when the repair guy comes in and says to me “Wow, you got here just in the nick of time.”
I thought he was going to say that my brakes were seconds away from being completely gone.
That is not what he said.
Apparently I was about 5 more miles from needing the rotors turned, which is the really expensive part of brake work. (disclaimer: I know zero about cars other that what I am told). So, that meant my brake work was only going to be $129.99! Woo hoo!
After the brake work, oil change and such I got out of there for only $176. The bummer is that I could not use my coupon.
And just think - if I had kept putting it off, it would have cost me a whole lot more. Maybe I will learn from this lesson this time around!
