Fed up with stuff
Do you ever just look around your home and just get fed up with stuff? I do not have a lot of clutter as I have been working on trying to be a minimalist. But lately, I have been looking around my apartment and thinking “I have too much crap.”
The sad thing is that I have gotten rid of a lot of stuff over the past few months. But, clearly, there is still some work to be done here!
And like I said, I do not have a lot of clutter, but I do have stuff in all of the closets in my 2 bedroom apartment. So, that got me to thinking about how much stuff is the right amount to keep?
I think, for me, I would like to get to where everything I have would fit comfortably in a studio apartment. You know, I would not want so much stuff that I would be overrun with stuff!
First up on my ‘getting rid of stuff’ to do list is find things for eBay. Apparently today is the last day for a promo they are having where if you list something with a starting price of $0.99 or less the listing fee is only $0.01! I am ashamed to say that the second bedroom in my apartment has a closet full of stuff that needs to go on eBay. And it has been there since December!
Also, a while back I went through my clothes to try to thin those out. And I had some that were in the “maybe” pile that I put together in my closet. The plan was that if I did not wear them in 3 months time that they were going to Goodwill. Guess what? I’ve worn one of those things exactly one time!
I am also presented with an interesting predicament regarding “work clothes.” So far, I have been making more money working from home than working at a real job. That means the work clothes and shoes are not getting used. At all. However, there is a pretty good possibility that I will be moving out of state in the fall and will likely be looking for a ‘real job’ even if just for a short period of time. But that might not be the case. So, then the question becomes - do I try to sell the pricey work clothes on eBay just to get rid of them and not have to move them or do I hold on to them just in case? This is quite the quandary as those clothes were not exactly cheap. I am toying with the idea of getting rid of some of them and keeping my faves. That way if I have to re-buy it will not be having to replace quite as much.
I also have a stack of books by the bed. The stack represents books that once I read them, I can take them to the used bookstore to sell. They have also been there since December. Well, the used bookstore is across town. So is the doctor where I have an appointment on Saturday. So, I am thinking maybe I should try to get through some of those books this week. Then I can sell them and have less stuff and more cash in my pocket!
