Smokers - argh!
I live in an apartment and the people across from me and the people beside me are smokers. I know this because it seems like every time I open my door there is someone smoking outside of it. Smokers (in my experience) have got to be the rudest and most inconsiderate people on the planet.
If they are smoking outside I can only assume it is because they do not want the smell inside. Well, if that is the case then why would they think that someone else would want to have to walk through it when they leave their apartment? And since it is an apartment, I can smell the smoke even when the door is closed. Like most apartments, my current apartment has some gaps around the front door which just let the smoke right in.
And apparently the people across from me do smoke inside sometimes. I know this because the smoke comes into my bathroom at times. And that is just beyond pleasant.
It is really too bad that there are not apartment complexes that are all ‘non smoking.’ I would pay more to live in a place where I knew there were no smokers. And not just outside. I have moved into apartments only to discover the previous tenants were smokers and the place reeked of stale smoke. Nothing like knowing you just signed a year lease to smell like stale smoke. And that your furniture, clothes, etc will retain that smell as well.
My frustration at smokers is not just limited to apartments though. I happen to be fortunate enough to live in one of the cities that bans smoking in restaurants and such, which is awesome. Of course, that also means that you have to walk through a cloud of smoke at the front door where the smokers have put themselves. The same applies to work place too. It seems that buildings always have a smoking area in the back, but there are those smokers that are too lazy to make that trek and position themselves at the main entrance.
I have relatives that are smokers. And I really hate getting hugs from stinky smokers.
And have you ever noticed how angry smokers get if you cover your nose when walking past them or through a cloud of smoke?
You know, I personally do not care if people want to be smokers. I mean, if they are dumb enough to do it knowing the health risks then let them go right ahead. But they do not have to make everyone else suffer due to their poor decision making skills.
