How to find your next job

Posted by chica with issues under job, career, school related issues

Looking for a new job can be a difficult and time consuming task. I know, I have changed jobs like you change underwear! But seriously, job hunting can be a daunting task. And with the current state of the economy here in the US I suspect that job hunting is just going to get more difficult.

If you are in the market for a new job, I have compiled some links and resources that just might help you out.

Workopolis.com
It bills itself as “Canada’s biggest job site” but I am not from Canada, so you will have to check that out for yourself to see if they live up to their claim.

Beyond.com
It is a general job search site. They seem to have a lot of listings.

Climber.com Dating for Jobs. Find the company and career that fits you the best.
(I have no idea if this is actually helpful or not, but it is free and seems kind of interesting.)

Yahoo! HotJobs

I’ve used this in the past and have had decent results.

SnagAJob.com

Supposedly the nation’s largest job site for part-time and full-time hourly jobs. Never used it myself though.

Go Freelance:
Find thousands of freelance and work-at-home jobs for just $2.95. Start today.
I’ve never used this but would be interested in hearing from anyone that has. I’ve actually thought about trying it out since it is just $2.95 for a trial.

HotResumes.com

I’ve never tried this but it seems like your standard job site.

TheLadders.com
A job bank for 100K+ jobs.

Job.com - Find Your New Job Here

Haven’t used this one either, but also looks like your standard job site.

Indeed.com
I have used this in the past. It is a pretty decent site but could stand to be a bit more user friendly. It is a great place to find jobs you can’t find elsewhere.

Monster.com
It used to be that this was THE place to go when looking for jobs. I say ‘not so much’ these days. But I know for some people it performs well.

Careerbuilder
It seems that most of the major newspapers here in the US have linked up with Careerbuilder for their online listings. For that reason, I am a fan of CareerBuilder.

USAJobs.gov
The the official job site of the United States Federal Government.

AllStarJobs.com
Another job bank.

America’s Career InfoNet
Looks like this is a job bank that also has some helpful articles.

CareerFile
A network of local career sites.

CareerMag.com
Select a career channel to research industry information, search jobs and build your portfolio.

Wall Street Journal’s Career Journal

AllRetailJobs.com
If retail is your thing, this is your site.

WorkplaceDiversity.com

AnimalJobs.com

Dice.com
If you are a technology professional, this is the site you want to use.

    Hello Chica!

Thanks so much for mentioning Indeed.com in your post and I hope it has helped you with your job searches! I can definitely relate to your statement as my recent job experiences have been quite varied too! I’m curious, however, by what you meant by “a bit more user friendly.” Was there something specific about the site that you found cumbersome? Let me know what you think! Thanks again and take care!

    Sincerely,

    Hillary O’Keefe
