You know sometimes it makes no difference if you have the best of intentions when it comes to being fit and healthy. There are times that those pounds can just sneak right on up on you. I like to blame holiday feasts for this!

But seriously, sometimes all you want is to know how to look a little thinner really quickly. I am not advocating a crash diet here or starvation. I am talking about being tricky and toying with perception by following these tips. They should work for all sorts of body types. And the point is that with a little perception trickery you can look slimmer instantly.

Be sure to stay away from prints. Seriously, keep the patterns to a minimum. And if you just can’t stow away that leopard print, just be sure you wear them on the parts of you that you don’t mind getting attention. And if you dare go with stripes, remember that thin vertical stripes offer up an overall slimming effect.

Yes it is summer, but the fact is that dark colors make you look slimmer. Sure, it is no secret that black is slimming - why do you think the little black dress is so famous? Most dark colors can give a similar effect and help you to hide those extra pounds that you don’t want showing.

Don’t try to hide behind baggy or bulky clothes. You might think it is a good idea to put a tent around those pounds but it really just makes you look frumpy. And more often than not, it makes you look larger than you really are. There is no sense in trying to hide in your clothes cause it just won’t work.

Sometimes a simple necklace can do the trick. You know those necklaces that have a short chain and then a longer piece that hangs down from it? (I don’t know what they are called). Anyways, those can work wonders and really make your neck appear longer and thinner. Pair this with a low cut or v-neck shirt to do double duty by minimizing a large chest.

Don’t underestimate the body shaper. If you only need a few inches to looking the way you want to in something these babies are a god send.

Hopefully these tricks can help you out in a bind when you need to hide a few pounds. Just remember that creating a positive body image is done with things like living well, making healthy eating choices and getting regular exercise.
