Observing others financial choices, part 1
The first state of staying with my relatives I was awoken by a banging on the door around 4 am.
It was the repo man.
The story goes that they were only one car payment behind. However, in my past experience with having a friend who had a father that was a repo man - it takes more than one missed car payment for the repo man to come. Of course, in this economy that may have changed. But regardless, they were at least one payment short.
I had seen them spend money all week long on treats and crafts for vacation bible school. They went on a vacation last month. One of them smokes Marlboro Lights. The other one has an addiction to Budweiser.
The car payment that was late is only $200. In just the things I have mentioned above, it is clear to see how they could have saved $200 from those things. But they decided to not pay the car payment.
The repo man asked for the car keys. They told him ‘no.’ So he said he was going to go get a tow truck and it would cost them even more. When he left, they moved the car into a neighbor’s garage until they could make a payment to bring it current.
And this was just the first night I was there!
