Free accounting software for Mac users
After seeing the FIRE Finance post QuickBooks - FREE Accounting Software for Windows I was feeling a little bummed as I am a Mac user. That got me to wondering if there is free accounting software for macs that is comparable to the Simple Start 2008 for Windows.
So, I did some investigating. And here are my findings.
Freeware
GnuCash - GnuCash can be used for personal or small business accounting. You can use it to track bank accounts, stocks, income and expenses. Installing this seem a bit overwhelming though as it is source code only and you will need Gnome 2, guile, and slib to install (whatever that means).
Cashbox - This is a pretty simple program for managing your personal finances. Personally I find a spreadsheet preferable to using Cashbox. But if you are just looking for something to serve as a check register then I would suggest this if you didn’t want to use a spreadsheet.
Buddi - This will run on any operating system that has Java installed. I *really* like this one!!
Sadly, these are the only three I found. If you know of any other great free accounting software for Macs please let me know in the comments!
