Do you suffer from spender’s guilt?
Today I got up a little late, which resulted in not having time to make anything for my lunch. So, I left the house with an apple and a few things to snack on but no real lunch. That means buying lunch out, which I rarely do. So, I’m suffering from some spender’s guilt right now.
I got a sandwich down the street and it only cost me $2.79, but I can’t help but think how that money could be better spent. I think all my focus on debt reduction and personal finance is to blame for this spender’s guilt.
If I think about and look back say 10 years ago I would not have even cared about the $2.79. Of course, back then I would have went to a sit-down place and spent $12.79! Thinking about that kind of made something click for me. The spender’s guilt might not be such a bad thing. I mean, I would much rather spend around $3 and feel a little bad about it than spend almost $13 and not even care.
I can’t help but wonder though if the spender’s guilt will hang around once I am finally out of debt. Maybe it should!

I always get spender’s guilt. Then I confess and everyone tells me to shut up LOL
I don’t get antsy over anything under $20, but anything over.. I feel strange. Like if I buy a book

I went shopping last week and bought some much needed clothes. I think I spent $80 (Macy’s was having a great sale and I needed basic items). Yet, I got home and started having buyers remorse. Did I really need these clothes (yes), could I find them at the consigment shop (no)? Could I have waited on the purchases (maybe, but the sale was great!)
I guess, really, what makes personal finance personal, is what you spend your money on and how important those items are to you in your life. Plus if you don’t make a habit out of buying lunch everyday, it’s ok to buy a sandwich every once in a while. Sometimes it’s nice to not bother with the packed lunch.
